Country manager France

Based in Berlin - Germany



This role will cover the BtoC ecommerce in France, with 2 keys objectives: adaptation of the marketing and commercial strategy to the French market.

This role is an outstanding position for a manager: an easy step to a MD role, with large budgets, team responsibilities and a steep learning curve, due to strong peer group and excellence in the company.



Define the organization strategy and focus areas:

  • Lead France development strategy, including strategic decisions and business plan objectives to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Take accountability for and manage the France Market P&L including short- and long-term sales forecasting as well as the local cost lines for marketing costs, strategic pricing, coupon rate, logistics costs, payment costs and customer care costs


Lead marketing and retail strategy on the French market:

  • Work with the Marketing lead and the Retail lead to aggregate and prioritize local customer and commercial needs (i.e., assortment, innovation, branding, online marketing, operations, etc.) for the respective market/region
  • Challenge Marketing lead on all marketing-related decisions that aim to attract the local customer base and ensure actions are in line with company’s overall vision 
  • Guide the Marketing leads to drive in-season optimisation at market level to ensure that monthly topline, margin and category mix targets are achieved


Oversee country performance:

  • Take responsibility for the definition of the local value proposition and accountability for its translation into functional KPIs/SLAs or OKRs
  • Through thorough KPIs analysis, ranging from marketing to operations, steer daily/weekly business performance on a market level to capture commercial opportunities


Team management and cross-functional role:

  • Lead a team of 15-20 direct reports: local marketeers and retail experts by counselling, mentoring, and guiding team members, and ensuring skill and career development
  • Together with the Region Directors, ensure collaboration and mutual goals between regions and the FS convenience, DX, and categories functions
  • Direct report to the VP Markets

Profil requis

  • A leading university degree in economics, engineering, statistics or management
  • Deep knowledge of the ecommerce or retail industry (BtoC market), with a broad knowledge of the French market and a marketing background
  • Strong organizational background acquired in a consulting firm, combined with an ecommerce experience
  • 10 years’ work experience in consumer-oriented commercial leadership role; Ideally General Management scope
  • Outstanding P&L management capabilities to deliver on ambitious goals (including planning, monitoring and taking actions)
  • Proven ability to drive operational retail execution; a hands-on commercial operator
  • Strategic commercial thinker; translate customer needs and commercial opportunities to a sound commercial plan that yield results on both short-term and mid-term.
  • Experience in leading big teams (including direct and indirect reports) through inspirational leadership and coaching
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skillset; Ability to (re)set commercial retail framework for the organization
  • Think fast, work proactively and always keep on top of things even in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Strong interest in lifestyle or Fashion environments
  • Fluent in English / German would be a plus (not mandatory)
